Mountain Taygetos plate
Mountain Taygetos plate
Using the natural slate formations of Mt. Taygetos offers a rich palette of textures and colors—think deep charcoals, subtle grays, and hints of earthy tones—that can bring a striking, organic feel to your mosaic.
Using Italian smalti adds a luminous, vibrant quality, as these glass tesserae are renowned for their rich colors and translucency. Incorporating smalti with the slate-inspired motif will create a stunning contrast between the matte, layered textures of the slate and the glossy, vibrant surfaces of the smalti.
Select smalti in shades reminiscent of the slate—dark gray, slate blue, with touches of teal smalti in between the slate layers.
Arrange the smalti pieces to emulate the stratified layers and natural fissures of slate, possibly incorporating textured ceramic elements to enhance the organic feel.
Used a combination of traditional mosaic methods—such as direct setting technique—to carefully place the smalti, emphasizing the natural flow and layers inspired by the mountain's geology.
This project promises a harmonious blend of natural inspiration and artisanal craftsmanship.
